![]() If you are serious about becoming a reflexologist, safely able to deal with a wide variety of health conditions, and are looking for excellent training (including hand reflexology) the syllabus we follow, and the qualification received - which also qualifies you for membership of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) – could be the course for you. Confused about which course? There are many courses and organisations, all apparently, offering the same level of qualification and training. However, as many students find out, this is not the case. Firstly, find out if your course is recognised by the Association of Reflexologists (AoR). If you want to join the largest and best known Reflexology organisation in the UK, it is important that you get this first bit right. Below is a list of organisations who are and are not eligible for membership to the AoR: • VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) trained Reflexologists - Not eligible for membership - further training is required at the student's expense. • Reflexology Association (UK) trained Reflexologists - Not eligible for membership - further training is required at the student's expense. • IIHHT (International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies) trained Reflexologists - Not eligible for membership - further training is required at the student's expense. • ITEC (International Therapies Examining Council) trained Reflexologists - eligible for Associate membership only. • IIR (International Institute of Reflexologists) and ABC/AoR trained Reflexologists - eligible for immediate full membership. (The IIR merged its membership with the AoR in 2007) Next - find out how long the organisation has been established and how many members it has. You don't want to be a member of an organisation that is 'here today and gone tomorrow'. • VTCT - Established 1970. This is an examining body and, as such, has no membership support for qualified Reflexologists. • Reflexology Association (UK) - Established 2008 - Membership unknown • IIHHT - This organisation has no website, so we are unable to comment on it's establishment or support. • ITEC - Established in 1979 as a beauty therapy training and membership organisation. It more recently developed a Reflexology course, according to its website, membership is only available to beauty therapists - Reflexologists have to become members of other organisations. • AoR - Established 1984 - has the UK's largest membership of over 8000, together with 63 local support groups around the UK. Lastly, what other organisations recognise the qualification you are thinking of studying for, bearing in mind, it is a health qualification. The most important organisations to consider are the NHS and UK Universities. • VTCT - No • Reflexology Association (UK) - No • IIHHT - No • ITEC - No • AoR/ABC - Yes!! Why train with an AoR Accredited school? The Association of Reflexologists is the UK's foremost Reflexology organisation. It is recognised by the UK government, the NHS and has reciprocal links with all the European Reflexology organisations. All AoR schools are also accredited by ABC Awards (affiliated to the Quality Curriculum Authority (QCA)), so the qualification you get is also recognised by all employers and universities. Why do I need to belong to a reputable professional organisation like the AoR? • Use of the letters MAR after your name (once qualified) • Free listing on the AoR’s Find a Reflexologist register • Low cost advertising in Yellow Pages • Provision of low cost website design service • Use of AoR logo on all your advertising literature • Peer group support from local area groups • Latest industry information via 'Reflexions' journal • Access to research papers • Access to members area on AoR website • Reflexology advice • Low cost, high cover insurance policy from top insurance company • Fully accredited CPD events and international speakers ![]() Reflexology is an ancient healing technique, based on the same principles as acupuncture. It is practised as a pressure-point massage of the feet or hands. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't tickle! It is now being used in hospitals, clinics and hospices as it sits very well alongside orthodox medicine. Reflexology is based on the principle that there are certain reflex points on the feet, which are linked to different organs of the body. When certain points are stimulated, they in turn stimulate specific body parts. STRESS, ANXIETIES Do you want to "stop the world!" and get off? Are you looking for peace of mind?
