Reflexology

Hello, my name is Glenys Underwood and I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist, a Fellow of the Association of Reflexologists as well as The Principal and Senior Tutor of the Anahata School. I am also a Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, the Association of Therapy Lecturers and the Professional Association of Clinical Therapists. I am affiliated to The HypnoBirthing® Institute in America as a Certified HypnoBirthing® Practitioner.  As a reflexologist, I specialise in Maternity and Clinical Reflexology, treating a host of conditions.

Reflexology is a natural, holistic therapy based on the discovery that there are points on the feet and hands which correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body. Gentle pressure is applied to the feet - or hands - to bring about a state of deep relaxation and to stimulate the body's own healing process.

As the reflexologist gives treatment to the feet or hands, she/he may discover imbalances in the reflexes. By treating such specific reflexes, reflexology can help both to prevent a more serious imbalance manifesting as disease, and treat an existing imbalance, restoring health and harmony to the body as a whole.

Benefits of Reflexology

This is a therapy suitable for all ages and has been found to be very beneficial in everyday conditions such as:
  • menstrual problems
  • asthma and other chest complaints
  • migraines and headaches
  • sinus problems
  • digestive complaints such as constipation or IBS
  • back and neck problems
  • chronic conditions such as high blood pressure
  • water retention

It has been found to be of particular benefit to MS clients, helping with relieving spasms, sleeping, bladder problems and general well-being.

Reflexology is also used in cancer cases, as it may help to reduce the side-effects from the drugs given to combat the cancer, such as nausea. It may also give benefit by reducing pain levels whilst giving the client a sense of well-being.

One of the most important areas where reflexology is now being used is in the alleviating of stress and its related conditions. It is powerfully relaxing, rejuvenating and energising. It can ease feelings of tension and stress that have an adverse effect on the immune system which leads to stress-related conditions in the body. It's also time-out from a busy and sometimes hectic life.

A treatment session typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour and costs £25.
