Reflexology

Hello, my name is Glenys Underwood and I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist, a Fellow of the Association of Reflexologists as well as The Principal and Senior Tutor of the Anahata School.

I am also a Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, the Association of Therapy Lecturers and the Professional Association of Clinical Therapists as well as being registered with the CNHC.

I am affiliated to The HypnoBirthing® Institute in America as a Certified HypnoBirthing® Practitioner and as a reflexologist, I specialise in Maternity and Clinical Reflexology, treating a host of conditions.
I am also a trainee Doula and a member of Doula UK.

Reflexology is a natural, holistic therapy based on the discovery that there are points on the feet and hands which correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body. Gentle pressure is applied to the feet - or hands - to bring about a state of deep relaxation and to stimulate the body's own healing process.

As the reflexologist gives treatment to the feet or hands, she/he may discover imbalances in the reflexes. By treating such specific reflexes, it is believed that reflexology can help both to prevent a more serious imbalance manifesting as disease, and treat an existing imbalance, restoring health and harmony to the body as a whole.  Please note that we reflexologists do not claim to diagnose or cure any of the conditions mentioned below.

Benefits of Reflexology

This is a therapy suitable for all ages and I have clients who have found it to be  beneficial in everyday conditions such as:
  • menstrual problems
  • chest and breathing complaints
  • migraines and headaches
  • sinus problems
  • digestive conditions
  • back and neck problems
  • water retention
Clients have also reported help with relieving spasms, sleeping, bladder problems and general well-being.

Many hospices now have complementary therapists working with them, amongst them reflexologists. Reflexology is used in patient care as it may help to reduce the side-effects from the drugs given to combat the cancer, such as nausea. It may also give benefit by reducing pain levels whilst giving the client a sense of well-being.

One of the most important areas where reflexology is now being used is in the alleviating of stress and its related conditions. It is powerfully relaxing, rejuvenating and energising. It can help to ease feelings of tension and stress that have an adverse effect on the immune system and cardiovascular system, which can lead to stress-related conditions in the body. It's also time-out from a busy and sometimes hectic life.  A typical comment from my clients is " I feel I can cope better".

A treatment session typically lasts 45 minutes and costs £25.00

Should you need a visit in your own home, I recommend Katy Pottage MAR at Twinkle Toes, a mobile reflexology service.  She also offers evening and weekend appointments. Her contact number is 01522 800177.
